Dexter

Updated: Nov 5

Currently, I travel with my trusted travel companion, Dexter. Dexter is one of those travel companions who love to be on the road, excited to check out new places, and it’s not uncommon for her to stick her head out the sunroof or window to let the sun warm her face or let the wind flow through her hair. She never complains unless it’s time to take a bathroom break. Never do I hear the words “Are we there yet,” “I’m hungry,” or “I’m bored.” Anyone traveling with children is well aware of these refrains. None of these things from Dexter. She is just happy to be out there.

Dexter has spent most of her life on the road. She has already traveled to 2 countries, 45 states, and seven provinces. All without a passport. Dexter is my three-year-old, 4-legged furry friend and is a beautiful black Labrador Retriever with lots of spirit, independence, and energy. She has spent so much time traveling and living in the truck's backseat that this has become her home.

During the summer, while at home, I keep the doors to the car open so that the seats and the interior do not get scorching hot. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to search for Dexter, only to find her in the backseat staring out the car door, wondering what the commotion is all about. That’s my dog – always hoping and ready for a road trip.
