As I stand on the brink of one life chapter closing and another awaiting its dawn, the anticipation of my next adventure fills me with a complex blend of excitement and contemplation. In February 2024, I embark on a journey not just across the diverse landscapes of South America but also through the unpredictable terrain of living with stage IV cancer. This four-month sojourn promises more than just a travelogue; it's a voyage of resilience, traversing by cruise ship, train, plane, and bus, starting from the vibrant streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A Challenge Unlike Any Other
Facing the greatest challenge of my life, managing the ups and downs of cancer, I'm committed to embracing every moment of this trip with a spirit unbowed. I trust in the journey's power to bring both good days and bad, yet it's in this duality that I find my strength and resolve to soak in every experience to its fullest.
The Essence of Adventure
My itinerary is a mosaic of thrilling, physical activities and soul-soothing cultural immersions:
Kayaking Adventures: From the icy embrace of Antarctica's Paradise Harbor to the serene beauty of the Marble Caves in Chile, each paddle stroke promises to be a meditation on the beauty of our world and the strength of the human spirit.
Rafting Thrills: Navigating the tumultuous waters of South America's most formidable rivers, I anticipate each rapid to teach me about resilience, letting go, and the thrill of the unknown.
Hiking Trails: Treading through ancient forests and up mountainous trails, I'll walk in the footsteps of civilizations past, each step a testament to enduring challenges, much like my own journey.
Cultural Richness: Beyond the adrenaline, I yearn for the warmth of South American cultures. From the rhythmic dances of Argentina to the ancient ruins of Peru, I seek to immerse myself fully in the continent's heart and soul.
Preparing Mind and Body
In preparation, I've turned to the gentle disciplines of yoga, qigong, tai chi, and meditation. This approach isn't about physical endurance but aligning my spirit with the natural rhythms of the places I'll explore. It's been a journey of discovering strength, flexibility, and breath control, preparing me physically and spiritually for the path ahead.
A Tapestry of Landscapes
From the majestic Iguazu Falls to the surreal
landscapes of Antarctica, north along the western coastline of South America through Chile’s diverse landscapes, to the mystical Moai statues of Easter Island, every destination is a chapter of its own. The ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu, the vibrant streets of Quito, Ecuador, and the evolutionary marvels of the Galapagos Islands await to share their stories. My voyage culminates in Colombia, a tapestry of color, culture, and history, before concluding in the tranquil paradise of Bonaire
An Invitation to Journey Together
This expedition is more than a travel narrative; it's a dialogue with the soul of South America and an introspective quest in the face of adversity. Through Argentine tango, Peruvian ceviche, and the myriad flavors and melodies encountered, every step celebrates life’s diverse tapestry.
I invite you to join me in traversing these incredible places and delving deep into the vibrant spirit of this captivating continent—and perhaps, in the process, discovering something profound about our capacities for adventure and resilience in the face of life's most significant challenges.
